Fresh off the press: Taiwan’s favorite NBA star is making a guest appearance on Taiwan’s favorite US sitcom.
Taiwanese-American NBA star Jeremy Lin will guest star on the latest episode of ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat, the Taiwan immigrant sitcom based on the best-selling memoir of chef and food personality Eddie Huang.
Lin, who plays for the Charlotte Hornets this year, will play Chau, a factory worker who frustrates Louis (Randall Park), one of the main characters, with his opinions on Pretty on Pink in the episode “The Fall Ball”, which will air on Tuesday October 13 in the US.
Lin is the latest NBA player to make a guest appearance on the show. Shaquille O’Neal makes an appearance as himself in the episode prior, titled “Shaquille O’Neal Motors”, which aired on October 6.
Fresh Off The Boat revolves around the experiences of a Taiwanese immigrant family in America in the 1990s.
The series stars Hudson Yang as Eddie Huang, a eleven year-old hip hop lover, has to adapt to a strange new environment when his family relocates from the Chinatown section of Washington, D.C. to suburban Orlando.
Randall Park (The Interview, Trainwreck, Veep) and Taiwanese-American actress Constance Wu play Louis and Jessica, Eddie’s father and mother respectively.
Debuting earlier this year on ABC, Fresh Off the Boat was the first network sitcom to focus on the story of a Taiwanese immigrant family and only the third attempt by any major American network to launch an Asian-American situational comedy.
The show was met with favorable results, garnering 7.94 million viewers on the first two preview episodes, making it the second highest rated comedy last season.
ABC renewed the show for a second season on May 7, 2015. Season 2 began airing on September 22 in the US.
